How to create a Power View report in the document library using BI Semantic Model Connection (BISM) file (SharePoint 2013 Business Intelligence site)

    This guide will show you how to create a Power View report in the document library using BI Semantic Model Connection (BISM) file at the SharePoint 2013 Business Intelligence site.

  • How to

    1. Login to the SharePoint 2013 site as an administrator.
    2. Navigate to the document library in which you are going to create a BISM connection file and Power View report.
    3. Go to the Library tab and click on Library Settings.
    4. Navigate to the Advanced Settings.
    5. Choose Yes under Allow management of content types? and click OK.
    6. Under the Content Types click on the Add from the existing site content types hyperlink.
    7. Choose BI Semantic Model Connection from the available site content types, click Add and then OK.
    8. Return to your document library, in the Files tab click New Document and choose BI Semantic Model Connection..
    9. Enter the name for your BISM file.
    10. In the Workbook URL or Server Name field in the Connection Information enter the SharePoint URL of the PowerPivot workbook (for example, http://yourdomain/PowerPivot%20Gallery/PowerPivot Sample.xlsx) and click OK.

      Note: Your PowerPivot workbook must be in the same farm.
    11. Now you can see your BI Semantic Model Connection (BISM) file. Click on it to create a Power View report.
    12. Create your report and click on Save as in the File menu.
    13. Now you are prompted to save report to your document library. Provide the name for your report and click Save.
    14. Return to the document library and refresh the page. You can see your Power View report created using BI semantic model connection (BISM) file.
